Occasionally a tooth can be damaged by a process called “resorption.” Managing resorption can be challenging as every case is unique. Success depends on the type of resorptive lesion (internal or external), location of the lesion, and its size. The most common cause of root resorption is trauma, particularly in cases where the injury results in damage to the root surface, leaving dentinal tubules exposed. However, many times resorption can be a seemingly random occurrence. Management can include simply monitoring the resorption, endodontic treatment, repair with a filling, or even minor surgical treatment to adequately treat the tooth. The specifics of your case would be discussed with you at the time of your consultation.
